Welcome to Delfina Saddlery - your online destination for all things WOW! With the rising popularity of WOW Saddles and girths, many riders live outside Delfina Saddlery's service zones or tour routes. We're often asked to help fit horses in states that don't yet have a WOW Rep - but that's okay, because you've come to the right spot! Delfina Saddlery offers a full-service Virtual Fitting that provides the same high-quality experience as our in-person Fittings. If you're not comfortable or confident in your skills, we'll even fly out to your location to do an in-person fitting. Either way, we'll work hard to ensure you and your horse have a comfortable saddle that works for the both of you.

As a leading provider of English tack, vegan leather horse equipment, and unique, handmade, custom leather tack and accessories, we've seen our fair share of innovative (and not-so-innovative) designs in the equine industry. With over 40 years in the Equine industry, we can honestly say WOW Saddles stand alone as the best saddle on the market today (and we think you'll agree)!

Why you can trust us:

Delfina Saddlery's Exclusive 110-Point Horse & Rider Saddle Fit Evaluations

Delfina Saddlery developed an exclusive, all-inclusive 110-Point Horse & Rider Saddle Fit Evaluation which includes extensive measurements of both your horse and your body and legs. While geared towards the fitting process for a WOW Saddle, our Saddle Fit Evaluation is also a smart choice for riders wanting to check the fit of their current non-WOW saddle, and an excellent first step for riders shopping for a new saddle - regardless of brand or type.

Every In-Person and Virtual Saddle Fit Evaluation involves:

  • Our Fitters will begin by evaluating your horse's conformation and your body's conformation
  • We'll evaluate your horse's walk and trot in-hand to develop a baseline idea of how your horse moves without a rider on board
  • Next, we'll have you tack up in your current saddle so we can observe your horse's current way of going and normal behavior under saddle. Your ride will be short but will include all three gaits in both directions, as well as a few jumps (if you're a jumper) at your normal schooling height
  • Using the WOW Saddle Gauge, our Fitters will then determine two potential saddle builds for your horse. Due to the available settings and options on our Saddle Gauge, there are always several combinations that could work for each animal. Doing so allows us to build multiple demo saddles that all fit your horse properly so he can pick his preferred build
  • Your Fitter will head back to the mobile shop and build both saddles immediately on-site. Depending on complexity, this should take 15 - 30mins.
  • Once your saddles are built, you'll mount up and allow your horse to try both builds with you in the saddle. Your horse will make clear which build he prefers; your Saddle Fitter will be comparing his movement, expression, engagement to your horse's ride in his existing saddle at the start of your appointment
  • Once your horse has picked his favorite build, we'll address your wishlist of wants & needs and find a few models at the intersection of what you and your horse both require. Due to WOW's modular build and the breadth of options available, there are over 1,900 WOW saddles available; ensuring your new WOW Saddle has exactly what both you and your horse need

This horse is trying out two of the saddle builds our fitter determined could work for him - which saddle do you think he preferred?

Horse in WOW Saddle with incorrect tree curvature
This horse is demoing his first build based on a Curved Tree, 1U headplate, and tabbed DWG Flair panels. While many would see nothing wrong with this picture, our Fitters saw multiple indicators that he was uncomfortable: his mouth was open and resistant to the rider's hand, he tended to carry his head with a tilt, he was grinding his teeth, his ears were quite tense and held back, and his eye had visible tightness and tension lines. He was actively swishing his tail throughout the ride and holding it up and out. While he appears to be lifting forward and up into the rider's hand, he was not lifting his thoracic sling or back, and was actively pushing the bottom of his neck down.
Horse ridden in a different tree curvature WOW Saddle
The same horse approximately 20mins later, demoing his Semi-Curved tree build, 1U headplate, and tabbed DWG Flair panels. In this build, he is happily lifting his back and thoracic sling, his tail is slightly softer, and he is showing significantly more expression in his movement. His ears have relaxed and were held softly to the side - even flopping with each stride on ocassion. He'd stopped grinding his teeth, tilting his head, and his eye was much softer. Being knowledgeable on Equitation Science is a vital skill for a quality Saddle Fitter, otherwise these subtle signs of pain, discomfort and displeasure would be overlooked.

Important Considerations Before Scheduling a Fitting with Us

You will be asked during the saddle fitting to perform several movements at all paces. If we ask you to perform an activity that makes you nervous or which you and your horse have not done prior to today you MUST stop and tell us before attempting to do as we ask. We all ride at different levels depending on experience and the practice we have, and we are not here to judge you; simply wishing for you to be confident and happy at all times.

Our role is to provide you with a saddle that is suitable and comfortable for both you and your horse based on the information you tell us. You are the expert with respect to your horse’s way of going – no one knows him better than you - so you must tell us if you feel any changes, good or bad.

It is also important that you tell us the full history of the horse and your experiences with him. We particularly need to know of any history of back or saddle-related problems which might cause an adverse reaction when a new saddle is fitted. For example, if you never ride with a saddle pad you should let us know. We always bring our own clean saddle pads for use during fittings.

We should also be told of any back, neck, hip or seat problems you have suffered from in the past as this can affect your riding. WOW has developed hundreds of options to address these common rider concerns, and this information will affect the specific saddle or saddle parts we recommend or suggest to you.

Finally, as it is better to be prepared for any unlikely event, we need to know if you are taking any special medications or need regular treatment for any specific health complaint(s). You will be asked to complete a Pre-Appointment Client Intake Form prior to your appointment, and a Rider Release Form on the day of our appointment; both forms provide space to disclose this information. We request this information in the very unlikely case that you have a serious accident, we need to be able to advise any ambulance or medical crew of such conditions and/or medications. Please also provide the telephone number of anyone who should be contacted in the event you have an accident.

Add-on Services: 3D Laser Scan Recreation and Topline Modeling

Delfina offers several optional add-on services riders may choose to make finding a non-WOW saddle that will properly fit their horse much easier. These services include a plasti-mold recreation of your horse's topline and saddle area, a 3D scanner used to create a 3D-printed positive and negative 'skeleton' model of your horse's back, or the use of a high-precision 3D laser scanner that may then be used to create various models of your horse's back. With any of these options, you will have a precise, three dimensional model of your horse's saddle area that you can then bring with you to saddle shops to ensure the saddle you're purchasing will actually fit your horse. On top of that, you can quickly and easily compare the 3D model with your horse's topline to spot improvements or loss of muscling which may indicate there is a problem with your saddle.

Whether we are checking the fit of your existing WOW saddle or advising you on the purchase of a new WOW saddle, we are always trying to help you and your horse get the best fit and performance possible from your riding equipment.

In-Person 110-Point Horse & Rider Saddle Fit Evaluation

Preparing for Your Evaluation

Prior to the start of your Fitting Appointment, we ask that you prepare by doing the following tasks:

  • We will need to be able to template and measure your horse so the horse needs to be well-groomed and fit to be photographed at the start of the appointment time. Please do not tack up yet, but please do have your current saddle, girth, and bridle ready to go.

  • We will examine the horse at a standstill and ask you to run your horse up whilst dismounted at both a walk and a trot. This means we need a perfectly flat, level, hard surface on which to perform these assessments.

  • If you must ride with a specific saddle pad (and not because it is compensating for some aspect of your current saddle's fit) or cloth please tell us and have it with you for your appointment so we can adjust the saddle’s fit with this in mind.

  • Whilst it sounds obvious, we do require the rider to be present as we only fit and adjust saddles when the horse is mounted by his primary rider. Please ensure you have your usual riding clothes, boots and a riding helmet on. While not required, wearing a contrasting belt is helpful to us to spot any asymmetry you may have.

  • We will ask a lot of questions about both you and your horse’s history in terms of performance, health and typical activities. It helps if you have already thought about these things so you have all the important points covered.

  • While fitting your horse, several photos and videos will be taken. The background or surrounding areas must be clean and organized so it is easy for us to see the outline of the horse’s body against the background. We also try to stand the horse up in front of a background that features straight, horizontal lines, such as a brick or cinderblock wall, fencing, etc., for several full-body shots.

  • We will wish to see you ride at all gaits in a safe, enclosed area with a good, non-slippery surface.

  • Normally we expect to spend at least two hours (and up to three) with you, so please budget for this so you are not rushed or pressured into making a decision just to get us out the door on time.

  • Please do not make appointments in the late afternoon if you do not have lights, and also not around your horse’s regular meal times if at a boarding or training facility.

  • If you are buying a jumping saddle, please ensure that jumps are available and you are allowed to use them.

  • If you stable your horse at a boarding facility that requires visitors, handlers, or riders to sign a Release of Liability, please make sure you have one handy for us at the start of the appointment.

Horses Change Shape

If possible, we recommend having a bodyworker do a session on your horse a day or two before your initial fitting. It has been our experience that a horse’s headplate size can change dramatically after just one hour of effective bodywork. It is preferrable to fit the horse’s body when in a healthy state; however, if body work is not something you do often or you are unable to have the work done prior to your initial fitting, please do not perform one. When we come to deliver your new WOW saddle, we will arrive with a full range of headplates and can easily swap them out if your horse’s body shape has changed. No other aspect of your saddle’s fit will change after bodywork except the headplate size.

Cataloging Horse & Rider Conformation

Your Saddle Fit Evaluation will begin with dozens of photographs of various parts of your horse from various angles. Our Fitting Team will take several short videos as they walk around your horse, too.

It is important for post-appointment evaluation of these photos that you have a clean, uncluttered area for us to document your horse's conformation. The busier the background or the more objects behind your horse, the more difficult it will be for us to see the outline of your horse and his body. The ground needs to be as flat and level as possible. Bright, strong lighting is essential to us being able to clearly make out the full landscape of your horse's topline in photos and videos.

Once we've taken all the required photos and videos, your Fitter will begin taking measurements of various parts of your horse; these include his girth, sternum, forehooves, and shoulder angles.

Photographing a horse for a WOW Saddle Fitting Evaluation Assessment
Your Saddle Fit Evaluation will begin with dozens of detailed photographs and measurements of your horse's body. Ensure you have a clean, uncluttered area with good lighting and a flat, level surface available.
An example of a bad fitting shot for a WOW Saddle Fitting
The busy, cluttered background makes it difficult to evaluate this horse's shoulder outlines. Additionally, this horse's mane obscures the outline of the left scapula. Poor lighting makes it difficult to differentiate between the horse's body and his mane.
An example of an excellent fitting shot for a WOW Saddle Fitting Evaluation
The clean, uncluttered background of this photo makes it much easier to make out this horse's body outline. Excellent lighting makes it easy to see the contours present across his topline. This horse's tidy mane does not cover either of his shoulders; if it did, a simple hair tie to gather it up and hold it out of the way is a quick and easy solution.

Baseline Under-Saddle Observation

Next, we'll ask you to tack up in your normal riding equipment and move to the arena for a quick ridden assessment. We'll ask you to perform several movements at all three gaits on both reins. If you're a jumper, or will be buying a jumping saddle, we'll want to see you take the horse over a few fences at your normal schooling height. Your Fitter will film your entire ride for future comparison and evaluation of improvements or declines in performance.

At this stage, our Fitters are establishing a baseline understanding of your horse's normal way of going and behavior under saddle. They'll note your horse's inclination to engage his hindquarters, lift his back, accept contact, and the degree of expression he normally offers.

We'll be keeping an eye out for any indicators of pain or discomfort, such as a swishing tail, squinted eye, tense ears, open mouth, head tilt, or hollow back. If we evaluate you over fences, we'll be watching the way your horse

locks onto the fence during his approach, his bascule, his behavior upon landing, and his average recovery time.

We'll also be watching how you ride - where you like to keep your leg, your upper body angles, and any asymmetries you display in the saddle. If you normally struggle with any saddle issues like slippage or loss of contact under the cantle, let us know when it happens during this ride.

This phase of the Evaluation is vital as we'll be comparing all these data points to your later rides in our demo saddles.

  • We will wish to see you ride in your current tack at all gaits, so make sure you have a safe, enclosed area with a good, non-slippery surface. This allows us to see your horse's current way of going, overall demeanor, and any pain or discomfort indicators. Doing so allows us to spot any improvements or regressions in performance once you're riding in a WOW.

  • If we ask you to perform any movement which you are unfamiliar or uncomfortable with, please stop and let us know. We are not here to push or judge you, simply to have the best base of information on which to build the perfect saddle for you and your horse.

  • Please do not make appointments in the late afternoon if you do not have lights, and also not around your horse’s regular meal times if at a boarding or training facility.

  • If you are buying a jumping saddle, please ensure that jumps are available and you are allowed to use them.

  • If you stable your horse at a boarding facility that requires visitors, handlers, or riders to sign a Release of Liability, please make sure you have one handy at the start of the appointment.

Finding Topline Landmarks

Chalking out a horse

After we've observed you and your horse in the ring, we'll return to the barn and untack. Your Fitter will then begin evaluating and assessing muscle tone in your horse's hindquarters to determine his dominant hind leg. We'll use special marking chalk made for livestock to mark the rear edge of your horse's dominant scapula, and his last rib where it joins the 18th spinal vertebrae. We'll also mark his natural girth groove.

The Saddle Gauge

The WOW Saddle Fitting Gauge
WOW's revolutionary, patented Saddle Fitting Gauge transformed the process of fitting a horse for a saddle from an 'art' to a science.

Over the years, dozens of brands have tried to replicate the WOW Saddle Fitting Gauge - just as they've tried to replicate many aspects of the WOW Saddle. Unfortunately for them, WOW holds hundreds of patents (over 200 in their trees alone!) for their saddles, bridles, girths, and accessories. We've yet to find another tool on the market that can determine saddle fit as efficiently and effectively as the WOW Saddle Fitting Gauge.

Once your horse's body has been evaluated, your Fitter will begin determining possible saddle builds for your horse using the WOW Saddle Fitting Gauge. The Gauge allows your Fitter to determine all aspects of saddle fit in a way that's reproducible by the saddle makers back at WOW HQ when they begin creating your saddle. It ensures your saddle will stay in place, be the correct width and length, and will put you in proper balance. Everything from tree curvature and front panel gussets to the rear panel gussets and gullet width will be clearly established by your Fitter using the Gauge. The Gauge also takes into account the amount of adjustment possible using Flair Air-Flocked panels - allowing us to lift the spine up or press it down to fine-tune the overall balance and ensure you'll be centered and stable on particular panel gussets. This stage of the fitting process, especially for a WOW saddle, is not optional! Even if your Fitter does not represent Delfina Saddlery, he or she must use the Saddle Gauge when fitting your horse for a WOW. No aspect of WOW saddle fit can simply be 'eyeballed' - by anyone!

Unfortunately, it's become all-too-common for a rider with a WOW Saddle to call us for an adjustment or fit assessment appointment because they are not having success with their WOW Saddle. Each and every time this has happened, we have learned their initial Fit Assessment was done without the use of the Saddle Fitting Gauge. And, 9 times out of 10, the saddle they were sold will never fit their horse. If your Fitter or Rep does not use the Saddle Gauge during your fitting, we can almost guarantee your saddle will not fit your horse. We highly recommend you thank them politely for their time, and seek out a new WOW Rep or Fitter to correctly assess your horse using the WOW Saddle Fitting Gauge.

The WOW Saddle Fitting Gauge and Contact Mat
The WOW Saddle Fitting Gauge should be used in conjunction with the WOW Contact Mat. You may notice your Fitter will only check the Gauge from one side; this is intentionally done so that measurements are taken from your horse's dominant, stronger shoulder. After a few weeks in a WOW, your horse's weaker shoulder will begin to strengthen and will eventually match his stronger shoulder, which will not experience much significant change.

Once set, the Saddle Gauge can be used to compare what you currently have with what your horse actually needs - and usually to shocking results. This is why we use the WOW Saddle Gauge even when determining fits for non-WOW saddles.

The Gauge Compared to a Custom Devoucoux

WOW Saddle Fitting Gauge on Custom made Devoucoux that didn
Prior to discovering WOW Saddles, I personally spent over $47,000 on a variety of 'custom' saddles for my little Andalusian mare. Requiring a U6 headplate, this is the headplate gauge set to a U6 against her custom Devoucoux. Further proof that merely running one's hand down a horse's back and 'eyeballing' the fit of any saddle simply doesn't work.
Custom made Devoucoux
My mare's extremely-forward girth groove requires an unusual girthing arrangement; something Devoucoux does not consider when making custom saddles. It is clear, here, to see why this saddle would end up on her shoulders and neck within a few strides when compared to the girthing arrangement she uses in her WOW (which doesn't move a millimeter over hours of even the most challenging terrain).

Building Your Demo Saddles

Your Fitter will determine two builds that will work for your horse using the Saddle Gauge. They will use these specs to build you two custom saddles right there at your barn during your appointment. What other brand offers this possibility?

Delfina Saddlery building a WOW demo saddle for a rider during a saddle fitting
Your Fitter will assemble all the various parts determined by the Saddle Gauge right there at your barn, allowing your horse to try both builds and pick his favorite.

Once we've decided on two potential builds based on two different tree curvatures, your Fitter will return to their mobile workshop and begin building both saddles from scratch. The process normally takes 15 - 30 minutes, depending on complexity, so you're welcome to return your horse to his stall for a short break and a quick snack.

The Team at Delfina Saddlery loves teaching riders about all the amazing features WOW Saddles offer both horses and riders, so feel free to hang out with us while we work! It's important you see how simple it is to assemble and disassemble these saddles, as you may find it necessary to do so yourself at some point. Ask us as many questions as you like, or we can chat about all things horse. Either way, we welcome your company.

On certain rare occasions, we may not have exactly the parts your horse needs, but we can often get close enough to know whether we're on the right track with a particular build or not. The enormous breadth of options WOW offers means no matter how big our mobile workshop is, we simply can't carry every single part with us on the road.

But, don't worry - your Fitters will know exactly what your horse needs, and are trained to identify signs that horses exhibit to communicate discomfort or appreciation of a particular build.

Delfina Saddlery
Your Fitter will arrive with a large selection of panels, flaps, seats, girthing rigs, and other accessories so your demo saddles can be made the day of your appointment, on-site, and on-the-fly.

Riding Your Demo Saddles

We'll begin with the saddle we believe your horse will most like. The first few minutes of your ride will be spent getting the Flair Air Flocking System set up and balanced for you and your horse. Once complete, we'll ask you to move through several exercises while our trained Fitters evaluate your horse closely. We'll be looking for signs of discomfort, pain or stress, and comparing his way of going to that from your ride at the start of your appointment in your current saddle. Ideally, we'll see an improvement to his demeanor, in addition to marked improvements to his way of going, expression, self-carriage, balance, and relaxation. Your Fitter will take detailed notes throughout your ride, and will be filming most - if not all - of your demo ride for our records. We'll keep each demo ride short, aiming to wrap up within 10 - 15 minutes. Then, we'll do the same process with your second demo saddle.

If you experience any issues such as lateral or longitudinal instability during any ride, we'll ask you to dismount so we can make some adjustments to the saddle's girthing system.

We built three demo saddles based on WOW's three tree curvatures to illustrate how clearly horses communicate whether they like a saddle fit or not. Which saddle do you think this horse likes best?

Designing Your New WOW Saddle

WOW Saddlery
We're still waiting to find that special rider dreaming of an Elite Competitor in full Magenta Patent Leather, possibly with Black Patent Stingray facings (but we're open to other possibilities - Silver Sparkle perhaps?). We know you're out there - give us a call so we can make the saddle of BOTH our dreams!

Now for the fun part! Your Delfina Saddlery Certified WOW Saddle Fitter will be carrying samples of many of WOW's Special Leathers - but these samples represent just a small percentage of WOW's full Leather Catalog which features hundreds of options. Not all of these options are available on all models of saddle, and the various model lines of WOW Saddles offer varying levels of customization. For example, WOW's basic DMK line offers custom facings, thread, and infill options at the expense of not being fully modular. The Competitor lines offer three tiers of customization: Argent Competitors offer no custom options and come in Black or Brown, D'or Competitors include pre-determined facing, thread, and infill options on Black or Brown saddles, and Elite Competitors offer full, unlimited customization opportunities.

We encourage you to download one or all of our exclusive WOW Saddle Catalogs in addition to the Customization Guide prior to your appointment. Keep a list of any models or options you would like so we can discuss whether they're possible during your appointment. And, if you don't see something you really want, WOW can design just about anything you'd like.

Don't want to ride in an ill-fitting saddle another day after your fitting? Delfina Saddlery offers convenient saddle rentals for just $50 per week, so you and your horse can get straight to work exploring your new wings with a WOW.

Ordering Your Custom WOW Saddle

The Saddle Gauge really comes into its own back at WOW HQ, where the team of Master Saddlers begin building each of the unique parts you picked during your fitting appointment. Using a combination of modern manufacturing and old-world traditional saddle making techniques, the saddle of your dreams  begins taking shape.

Typically, your saddle will be completed and ready for shipment within 3 - 5 months, depending on the time of year and the number of orders ahead of yours. If you won't have a saddle to ride in in the interim, Delfina Saddlery offers weekly saddle rentals so you and your horse can get straight to work. Ocassionally, under certain special circumstances, WOW may be able to move your saddle to the front of the queu. This is done only under their discretion.

Once complete, your saddle will be shipped to Delfina Saddlery, who will cover the costs of shipping and as well as any import tariffs. We'll let you know when your saddle has shipped and when we've received it.

Delivery of Your Custom WOW Saddle

Once your saddle has been delivered to Delfina Saddlery, we'll schedule an appointment with you again. This appointment is considered part of our 'Saddle Fit Assessment', and does not cost you anything extra (unless we must travel further than 75 miles from our home base in 94505, in which case you will be responsible for our travel fees).

During this appointment, we'll use the Saddle Gauge again just to double-check that your horse's body hasn't changed since your initial fitting and he still requires the same headplate size. If he has changed, we'll simply swap out the headplate in your new saddle with the correct one your horse requires that day. The only other aspect of fit that may change is the girthing arrangement, which we will also adjust during this appointment.

Following our quick fit-check, we'll tack your horse up in his new custom WOW Saddle, then head to the ring to get the panels adjusted for both you and your horse. We will again ask you to perform several exercises at all three gaits, on both reins, to ensure your saddle is stable on your horse's back at all times. If you're a jumper, we'll ask you to school a few fences for us so we can ensure the panels and girthing rig are set up correctly to keep you in place over fences. After a short 20-minute ride, we'll head back inside, untack, and ask you to put your horse away.

We'll bring you back to our mobile workshop where we'll seal your saddle's Flair tubing and feeding them back into the panels. We'll show you how to disassemble and re-assemble your saddle, review monthly maintenance you should perform on the parts, and discuss care of the leather.

A brand new WOW Saddle being set up after delivery by Delfina Saddlery
The big day has finally arrived!

Your Two-Week Check-in

Following delivery of your new WOW Saddle, we'll schedule a follow-up fitting appointment two weeks later, or after you've had time to do 6 - 12 rides. Almost all horses will experience physical changes in their topline once your saddle no longer interferes with his full range-of-motion. In a few rare instances, these changes have ocurred within hours of working in a WOW Saddle. These physical changes range from his shoulder angles enlarging and the degree of lift through his thoracic sling, which might affect the girthing rig deployed. This appointment is essential to ensure your panels get adjusted to accommodate these changes and a larger headplate is installed.

We've found, as has WOW, that the vast majority of horses will undergo dramatic physical changes within two weeks of regular work in a WOW Saddle. This is, in large part, due to the flexibility of the tree which allows your horse to use his body to its maximum ability. Painful tree points no longer hinder the scapula's full range of motion, and horses are able to naturally and easily recruit and engage muscle groups involved in collection and engagement. The end result is a stronger topline, and less pronounced shoulder asymmetry.

While wonderful and exactly what we hoped for, these physical changes necessitate the adjustment of your saddle's Flair Air Flocking System, headplate size, and occasionally the girthing system we deploy.

It is important to book this follow-up appointment and maintain a schedule of regular adjustments throughout the life of your WOW Saddle; especially at the start when the most dramatic changes take place.

Delfina Saddlery
Your horse's body will go through some radical positive changes in the first few hours of working in a WOW Saddle, and it's important to check its fit again shortly after delivery.

Future Adjustment Appointments

WOW recommends the following schedule for adjustments for your WOW Saddle:

  • Two-weeks post-delivery
  • Six months post-delivery
  • One year post-delivery
  • For the next two years, you should have your saddle and panels checked and adjusted once per year.
  • After the initial three years have passed, most horses and riders can get away with adjustments every other year.

However, if you find you're starting to experience stability issues, or your horse is developing any soreness, do not hesitate to give us a call. It's better to address a problem early on than allowing it to fester and cause permanent damage.

And remember:

A WOW FGH Giant, High, Fixed-Block Dressage saddle with wool panels that required re-flocking
This wool-flocked WOW Giant, High, Fixed-Block Dressage Saddle required re-flocking to restore proper balance

  • Your success with WOW depends entirely on the knowledge and skill of your Fitter or Rep
  • Failure to have your horse thoroughly and correctly evaluated at the start will result in an imperfect or incorrect fit
  • Use of the WOW Saddle Gauge is not optional. 'Eyeballing' a horse for a WOW Saddle is not possible and anyone telling you otherwise is not educated on properly fitting your horse for a WOW
  • Delfina Saddlery's Fitting Team were the first North American WOW Fitters and Authorized Representatives to be taught, trained, and certified in the UK by the owners and inventors of WOW Saddles
  • If you're in IL, MI, IN, OH, or WI, we highly recommend Renske Valkenberg, owner of The Saddle Doc and North America's only other Certified WOW Fitter and Authorized Representative

  • As with all saddles, regular adjustments of your WOW's fit is vital to maintaining the health and soundness of your horse throughout his lifetime
  • Your horse's back will change shape continuously throughout his entire lifetime; fluctuating seasonally, with use, with overall health, with age, his breed, and due to his genetics
  • Would you rather have a saddle that was endlessly adaptable to those changes with nothing but a quick appointment? Or would you prefer to deal with a new rep, pay for a new fitting, and buy a new saddle that may or may not fit each time one of these changes takes place?
  • Having a saddle that fits is vital to your horse's ongoing health and soundness
  • Did you know studies have shown a link between consistent saddle slip and hindlimb lameness?

The Virtual Fitting Experience

Delfina Saddlery's Virtual Fitting is designed to mimic our in-person fitting experience as closely as possible. Our 110-Point Horse & Rider Saddle Fit Assessment covers every point - big or small - that can affect saddle performance and fit, and it was non-negotiable to us that we offer this same attention to detail to our Virtual clients while also compensating for common mistakes that can easily be made by users inexperienced with using our equipment. Regardless of distance, you and your horse will receive the same care and thoughtfulness our in-person clients enjoy. We've gone to great lengths to design a Fitting Kit filled with everything you'll need to be our hands and feet during our video appointments, including extras that will compensate for common errors clients inadvertently make whilst being those hands and feet.

Your Virtual 110-Point Horse & Rider Saddle Fit Assessment includes:

  • Evaluation of your horse's conformation and your body's conformation
  • Video clip assessments of you in your current saddle that allow us to see your horse's current way of going and establish his baseline behavior under saddle. You will receive a list of short ~30sec video clips we would like to see, including all three gaits in both directions, plus a few jumps (if you're a jumper) at your normal schooling height. You can complete these clips before or after your initial Fitting Appointment
  • Instructions on determining and marking your horse's dominant shoulder, 18th vertebrae, and natural girth groove before your scheduled appointment time
  • Over Zoom, FaceTime, or Whatsapp Video, we'll walk you through use of the WOW Saddle Gauge to determine two potential saddle builds that will work for your horse. Due to the available settings and options on our Saddle Gauge, there are always several combinations that could work for each animal. Doing so allows us to build multiple demo saddles that all fit your horse properly, then allow him to pick his favorite
  • Instructions on making a 3-dimensional wither tracing using the included Flexi-Ruler, chalk, poster board, and pen
  • A list of additional still photos to take following your fitting appointment
  • Once your horse's saddle builds have been determined, we'll ship you two demo saddles for you to try. Shipping costs back and forth will be your responsibility, but average about $120 each way. We'll also place a hold on a credit card for the full value of both saddles, which will be released and refunded immediately upon return of all saddles and equipment
  • We'll schedule a second video appointment to get the Flair panels set up and adjusted correctly so your horse can try both builds. Your horse will make clear which build he prefers; your Saddle Fitter will be comparing his movement, expression, engagement and more to your horse's ride in his existing saddle at the start of your appointment. You'll have a few more days to ride in them after your video appointment
  • Once your horse has picked his favorite build, we'll tackle your wishlist of wants & needs and find a few models at the intersection of what you and your horse need. Due to their modular build and a wealth of options available, there are over 1,900 WOW saddles available; ensuring your new WOW Saddle has exactly what both you and your horse want

Upon confirmation of your Virtual Appointment, we'll create a private Google Drive folder just for you and your horse.

There you'll find PDF copies of all relevant paperwork that will be arriving with your Fitting Kit. You're welcome to fill the Client Intake Form out digitally, or on the paper copy with your Kit.

You can upload all requested photos & videos to this folder.

Delfina Saddlery
Delfina Saddlery's exclusive WOW Saddle Fitting Kit includes everything you'll need to take accurate measurements of your horse during your 110-Point Horse & Rider Saddle Fit Assessment.

Our Virtual Fitting Appointment has a listing fee of $500. This charge is assessed to both cover the cost of the full kit itself as well as the Appointment fee. Once your Appointment has concluded, you'll use the included return label to send the full kit back to Delfina Saddlery, who, upon return of the full kit, will refund $250 of the original $500 charge to your original payment instrument. Additionally, should you decide to purchase a new saddle from Delfina Saddlery, we'll deduct the remaining $250 Appointment cost from the cost of your new saddle. This means the Appointment itself costs you absolutely nothing, so, what do you have to lose?

Preparing for Your Virtual Appointment

Prior to the start of your Virtual Fitting Appointment, we ask that you do several important tasks:

  • You will need to be able to template and measure your horse so the horse needs to be well-groomed and fit to be photographed at the start of the appointment time.

  • We will be examining the horse at a standstill. This means you need a perfectly flat, level, hard surface on which to perform these assessments.

  • If you must ride with a specific saddle pad (and not because it is compensating for some aspect of your current saddle's fit) or cloth please tell us and have it with you for your fitting so we can adjust the saddle’s fit with this in mind.

  • Whilst it sounds obvious, we do require the primary rider to be present as we only fit (and adjust) saddles when the horse is mounted by his primary rider. Please ensure you have your usual riding clothes, boots and a riding helmet on. While not required, wearing a contrasting belt is helpful to us to spot any asymmetry you may possess.

  • We will ask a lot of questions about both you and your horse’s history in terms of performance, health and typical activities. It helps if you have already thought about these things so you have all the important points covered.

  • We will be recording our entire Fitting Appointment. We request that the background or surrounding areas  be clean and organized so it is easy for us to see the outline of your horse’s body against the background. Bonus points if you are able to stand the horse up in front of a background that features straight, horizontal lines, such as a brick or cinderblock wall, fencing, etc.

  • We will wish to see you ride this horse at all gaits in a safe, enclosed area with a good, non-slippery surface. You'll use the included Pivo Kit to take these videos. If it is not possible for you to ride your horse now (for example, if you don't currently have a saddle), you're welcome to upload videos from the past (the more recent the better, though).

  • Normally we expect to spend at least one hour (and up to two) with you, so please budget for this so you are not rushed just to get us off the call on time.

  • Please do not make appointments in the late afternoon if you do not have lights, and also not around your horse’s regular meal times if at a boarding or training facility.

The Virtual Fitting Appointment

Your Appointment will be conducted over FaceTime, Zoom, or the Pivo Track app. When scheduling, we'll confirm which method you'd prefer to use.

We'll be recording your entire Virtual Fitting so both you and our Fitters will be able to quickly and easily refer back to it to confirm certain details. The recorded video session will be uploaded to your private Google Drive folder for easy reference.

During your appointment, you can attach your cell phone to the Pivo Pod and mount it on the included tripod. We recommend setting the Pivo Remote just behind your horse or on his halter so the Pod remains centered on your horse's body for the duration of your appointment.

Your Appointment will be conducted over FaceTime, Zoom, or Pivo Track

After Your Virtual Fitting Appointment

In addition to the Fitting Appointment itself, you'll be tasked with taking several videos of you and your horse in your current tack and equipment. These include:

  • The walk on both reins
  • The trot on both reins
  • The canter on both reins
  • All three gaits on a straight line towards and away from the camera
  • 5+ jumps at your schooling height
  • Walking and trotting your horse up in-hand
  • Any specific clips illustrating some of the current issues you are currently having with your existing tack and equipment
Delfina Saddlery
We also request several current riding clips and still photos with your Virtual Fitting.

We'll include a hard copy of the list of exact clips we'll need with your Fitting Kit, but the list will also be inside your private Google Drive folder. Once done, you'll upload them to that same private Google Drive folder.

When you've finished taking all additional photos and videos, simply pack your Fitting Kit back up into the original box, tape the included return label over the old one, and drop the box off at your local UPS.

Demo Saddles

After your Fitting Appointment is complete, the next step is to allow your horse to try out the two builds we determined using the Saddle Gauge.

We'll build both of these saddles here at Delfina Saddlery and ship them off to you along with a full Flair adjustment kit. Typical shipping costs one-way range from $50 for one saddle to $120 for two. Once the saddles have arrived, we'll set up another Video Appointment with you to get the Flair Air-Flocking Systems adjusted for your horse and watch your demo rides.

The panels you will be sent will have either the Flair, or Flair MKII Air Flocking Systems installed. This necessitates proper setup and adjustment by a Fitter trained to adjust Flair Systems.

We'll include a Flair hand pump and all attachments necessary to inflate and deflate the Flair bags in your demo saddles. During this second virtual Fitting Appointment, we'll walk you through the tacking up process to ensure your girthing system is deployed correctly, then we'll head off to the arena.

Fitting Appointment for Demo Saddles

You will, again, be tasked with being our hands during the appointment while we give you instructions. For this appointment, it will be tremendously helpful to have an extra person available to perform the Flair adjustments as you must be sitting in the saddle. While it is possible to adjust the panels whilst sitting in the saddle, it's difficult and requires a calm horse and a flexible body, so we don't recommend it if it can be avoided.

You will again be sent a Pivo Kit which includes the Pivo Pod, Pivo Remote, and a tripod. You'll carry the remote with you on the horse and set the tripod up in the center of the arena.

You'll be asked to perform a series of movements under saddle that enable us to gauge what adjustments need to be done to the Flair Systems in order to maximize your horse's performance and perfect your position in the saddle. You are never to attempt adjustment of the Flair System outside of a virtual fitting appointment. If you have questions or feel the panels need further adjustment during your trial period, please call or text us at (310) 817-6910, or email us at support@delfinaeq.com to set up a virtual appointment so we can assist you.

Failure to follow these directions could lead in injury to you or your horse for which Delfina Saddlery is not responsible. If you end up damaging any part of your demo saddle, your credit card will be charged the full retail price of that saddle.

Delfina Saddlery
Your helper will be instructed on how to make adjustments to your demo saddle's Flair System on the fly during Part II of your Virtual Fitting Appointment.

Finishing Your Virtual Fitting

After having ridden in your demo saddles, and allowing your horse to voice his (or her) opinion on their fit, we'll have a solid idea of what to order for your horse.

The next step in the process is the most fun for you! If you haven't already, we'll ask you to look through some of our WOW Saddle Catalogs and make some crucial decisions. You'll need to pick out:

  • Your desired flap style
  • Your desired model line
  • Your desired seat style

We'll upload a form to assist you in the design of your new WOW saddle - from facing choices, to infills, bling options, and any special custom requests. Now it's your turn to let your creativity soar!

Once you're done, Delfina Saddlery will place your order for your new WOW Saddle. Typical time to completion is usually around 4 - 6 months, but if you need it on a shorter timetable please let us know. Occasionally, WOW can rush your order, but it's safest to plan on this time frame.

If you'll require a saddle in the interim, Delfina Saddlery does offer weekly saddle rentals, so you and your horse can get to work in a properly-fitted saddle immediately.

Delfina Saddlery
We'll upload our Saddle Catalogs to your private Google Drive folder at the conclusion of your demo rides. Your next task is to pick out your desired model of WOW Saddle. If it seems overwhelming, just let us know and we can help you narrow your choices down to a couple models.

It's better to address a problem early on than to allow it to fester and cause harm to you or your horse.

And Remember:

Delivery of Your New WOW Saddle

We'll bring you back to our mobile workshop where we'll seal your saddle's Flair tubing and feed them back into the panels. We'll show you how to disassemble and re-assemble your saddle, review monthly maintenance you should perform on the parts, and discuss care of the leather.

ScanKit Services

Delfina Saddlery's ScanKit Service utilizes a revolutionary 3D-Scanner that precisely measures the surface of your horse's back with millimetric accuracy; digitally and impartially. This service totally eliminates human error and does not depend on the skill level of a saddle fitter or their ability to accurately feel the dips and hills of your horse's back.

Our ScanKit is the first mobile 3D measurement system for the horse's back and saddle-bearing area. With a quick and easy scanning method, measurement and documentation of your horse's back becomes fast, hassle-free and absolutely precise. The full scan takes less than 2 seconds to complete and results are available immediately.

Our 3D ScanKit Services are also available for our Virtual clients - using nothing but an iPhone, the same laser-precise results will be collected and the resultant scan will be available immediately using a simple app.

The results of the scan can then be transformed into multiple, tangible, real-world models used in a variety of ways for a variety of purposes. This service is not limited to WOW Saddle customers only - in fact, we utilize ScanKit Service with clients who are not purchasing a WOW Saddle and therefore do not necessarily need or want to use the WOW Saddle Gauge's results. If you simply want your horse measured for a new saddle, sign up for our ScanKit Service! With the results in hand, you can visit any tack shop, saddlery, or saddle fitter and use them to find a saddle that will truly fit your horse.

Many trainers utilize our ScanKit Services to track progress with their training clientele. A quick scan performed at intake with a new horse creates a baseline image of the horse's topline and back. Later scans can then be compared to the intake scan and will clearly show improvements to topline development, or assist in the early identification of areas of concern.

Our ScanKit Service really comes into its own when used by rehab specialists, though. Regular scans of a horse's back clearly show improvements over time, and the results - which can be clearly understood by any layman - show progress to the horse's conditioning over time. Goals can be set and results proven impartially.

Delfina Saddlery's ScanKit Services Are

Groundbreaking: Our ScanKit is the only tool for ultra-precise measurement and documentation of your horse's back

Mobile: Our ScanKit is highly mobile, easily carried and operated by just one person - even during our Virtual Fitting Services

Complete: Our ScanKit includes everything needed for instant measurement and later conversion to tangible, real-world models

Useful Across Saddle Makers: The results of our 3D ScanKit can be used to create life-sized models of your horse's back to document changes over time, to  create a negative model that can be placed inside a saddle to confirm good fit, or set a TOMAX Simulator for use during manufacture

Laser-Precise: All results can be precisely translated for exact reproduction by the TOMAX HBST+ Horseback Simulator. The TOMAX is a complex robotic simulator that is used by multiple saddleries in the creation, adjustment, and adjustments of a saddle to the horse's back, regardless of the horse's location in the world.

The ScanKit's 3D scanner is simply placed over your horse’s back. Modern image-recognition algorithms and automatic lighting achieve optimal measurement results.

The 3D-Scanner measures every dip, curve, and quirk of your horse's back with millimetric accuracy; turning the art of saddlefitting into a digitally-precise science. The information that's gathered by the scanner is completely impartial and does not rely on techniques prone to human error.

The measuring process is completed in just 1.5 - 2 seconds. The scanner takes 30 individual measurements in this time to achieve its precise measurement results.

HorseShape 3D Scanner
ScanKit's 3D Scanner scans your horse's back with pinpoint accuracy in seconds.

HorseShape

After measurement with the 3D-Scanner, the scan data is uploaded to the myHORSESHAPE Platform and processed by their local servers. This processed scan data is the basis for further documentation, editing, and distribution of your horse's results with other professionals.

All measurements are stored online and can be accessed anytime, worldwide, on any device (PC, laptop, tablet, smartphone etc.). All data is stored in two geographically-separated data centers and  secured by modern security architecture.

Every measurement can be displayed in various 3-Dimensional views. This allows a detailed evaluation of your horse's back by anyone of your choosing. You can use our handy online measurement tools to visualize any cross sections of your horse’s back, then measure their distances and angles. These professional CAD-style results enables us to measure distances and angles between any points.

The HorseShape 3D Scan
The HorseShape 3D Scan's PDF results are available on the myHorseShape Platform for clients of Delfina Saddlery

All data can then be downloaded in PDF form and accessed in your private Google Drive folder at any time by you or your desired saddle fitter. The platform automatically provides measurement matrix information (according to BVFR/FN) for the TOMAX HBST+ horseback simulator, too.

Additionally, Delfina Saddlery is able to translate this data into printable cross-sections of any given points within the 3D scan. We can then print your desired data points onto a sturdy poster board and laser cut each section out for you. This quick and easy option enables you to take these cut-outs to any saddle shop of your choosing to instantly check the fit of any saddle against your horse's back, ensuring the perfect, ideal fit of any saddle to your horse.

This revolutionary technology completely eliminates the guesswork involved in purchasing a new saddle for your horse, or checking that your current saddle fits your horse. When combined with 3D scans of your horse taken later, you'll be able to chart any improvements or declines in his conditioning over time.

The Fitting Set

The Fitting Set can be ordered for every measurement taken during the 3D scan of your horse's back, and is manufactured in two distinct sets: the ShapeProof and the SaddleGuide. The ShapeProof's 1:1 model fits seamlessly onto the horse’s back. The second part, the SaddleGuide, negatively recreates the horse's back and is the perfect basis for saddle fitting and re-flocking of your existing saddle - even when your horse is not physically present! Each set can quickly and easily be broken down and comes in a flat storage case for safe keeping. You can re-assemble the models at any time for your vet, your rehab specialist, your bodyworker, or your saddlefitter.

The complete FittingSet is custom-made for your horse and perfectly recreates your horse's scanned back. By direct data transfer to HorseShape's cutting laser, we  ensure the highest reliability possible during the manufacturing process of both models.

Both parts of the FittingSet are produced out of one sturdy material and all pieces fit together perfectly, like a puzzle. The models can be broken down and stored flat when not in use, then quickly and easily reassembled when needed.

The FittingSet is the perfect way to track changes to your horse's topline over time. Ideal for horses in training, but truly indispensable for horses going through rehab for spinal or leg injuries, even the smallest changes to the horse's body are obvious using these models.

The HorseShape FittingSet by Delfina Saddlery saddle fitting service
Both sets of the FittingSet can be broken down and stored flat; both come with their own flat storage box to keep them safe and save space.

The ShapeProof

The ShapeProof's life-size scale model fits seamlessly onto your horse's back, documenting every curve, dip, and angle across the landscape of your horse's back at the time of the scan. By simply applying the ShapeProof to the horse's back, you can easily spot changes to his build over time.

If you have a saddle that's been fitted to your horse's back, a quick application of the ShapeProof will show if there have been any noticeable changes to his build that may necessitate adjustment or changes.

The ShapeProof is an amazing tool for rehab facilities and veterinarians, too - allowing them to identify improvements or declines in the horse's muscling so corrective measures can be taken in a timely manner.

For young horses or horses in full training programs, Trainers and Owners can apply the ShapeProof to the horse's back to chart progress or recognize areas of weakness before they get out of hand.

HorseShape
The ShapeProof is an indispensable way to track changes to your horse's back over time and easily visualize them.

The Saddle Guide

The SaddleGuide model precisely recreates the horse’s back in negative, meaning the top of the model is a direct recreation of your horse's back. This tool aids in the selection, fitting, and re-flocking of a saddle to a particular horse's back - even when the horse is not physically present.

By pressing the SaddleGuide into the underside of your saddle, you can easily evaluate whether the saddle fits your horse correctly or not.

Are you saddle shopping? Frustrated with the process of putting a deposit down, shipping the saddle home or driving back from the tack shop, only to find the saddle doesn't actually fit your horse?

Bring your SaddleGuide with you to the tack shop and take the guesswork out of the process. You can even ship the SaddleGuide to your online saddlery so they can test it against their current inventory. No longer will you need to take saddle after saddle out on trial only to get to the barn and find it doesn't fit your horse - the SaddleGuide completely eliminates this tedious process and gets you back in the saddle and back to work immediately, while simultaneously ensuring your horse is also comfortable and confident to work with you!

HorseShape
The SaddleGuide recreates the horse's back in negative, enabling you to check the fit of your horse's saddle.

The TOMAX® Horseback Simulator

Our 3D Scanner automatically provides measurement matrices (according to BVFR/FN) for the TOMAX horseback simulator, too.

Used by saddleries around the world, the TOMAX perfectly captures and transmits every dip and curve of your horse's back to any TOMAX Simulator around the world.

The TOMAX HorseShape creates a three-dimensional and precise replica of your horse's back. The patented TOMAX® horse back model allows your saddle maker to map every data point obtained using Delfina Saddlery's 3D  Scanner and adjust the saddle while it sits on the frame. The TOMAX® produces a three-dimensional, true-to-life recreation of your horse's back, making it an indispensable tool for saddleries, saddle manufacturers, and saddle retailers.

Cast Services

SaddleCast horseback molding services from delfina saddlery
EQUImeasure kit from delfina saddlery

Delfina Saddlery employs a variety of casting services for clients wishing to have a same-day recreation of their horse's back  to immediately take saddle shopping. The decision to use either a Saddle Cast or EQUImeasure Cast will depend on the facilities available where you stable your horse. For barns with a simple oven on-site, we recommend the EQUImeasure. For barns without an oven, we prefer to use our Saddle Cast kit.

If you would like to have Delfina Saddlery create a cast of your horse's back, please call/text us at (310) 817-6910 or email us at support@delfinaeq.com.

Saddle Cast

The SaddleCast uses the sun's natural UV light to quickly harden a flexible and pliable mold into a hard cast in the exact shape of your horse's back. The resulting cast can be used to take the guess work out of saddle shopping, or sent to your saddlemaker to assist in the most accurate fit of a custom-made saddle.

The SaddleCast is completely self-contained, and will not make a mess of your horse's coat. On a sunny day, it takes just 2 - 4 minutes to cure. On a cloudy day cure time is just 5 - 7 minutes.

Delfina Saddlery SaddleCast service
The SaddleCast can be used against a saddle to check for proper fit.

EQUImeasure

Using our EQUImeasure Kit, Delfina Saddlery can make a precise 3D mold of your horse’s back same-day, on-site. You can take the mold with you while saddle shopping to make sure the saddle matches the rock and twist of the back, its correct weight-bearing length, and not just the width at the shoulders.

EQUImeasure kits can be used to:

  • Assess the fit of an existing saddle
  • Assist in the selection or creation of a new saddle
  • Evaluate a horse's back for asymmetry

EQUImeasure molds require gentle heating at a precise temperature in a common kitchen oven. It is an excellent option for horses at stables that have an oven on-site. After heating, the mold must be placed on the horse within 10 minutes, allowing for a short distance to exist between the oven and the horse. For best results, though, it's preferred to take it directly to the horse.

Delfina Saddlery
The Equi-Measure kit must be lightly heated in an oven before application

How much does a Saddle Fitting Evaluation cost with Delfina Saddlery?

The cost of your Evaluation will depend on your desired outcomes.

If you will be purchasing a new WOW or Duskin Saddle through Delfina Saddlery, your initial Evaluation will cost $250. However, we will apply the cost of your Eval to the cost of your saddle, meaning the Evaluation will cost you absolutely nothing.

If you would like to be fitted for a WOW Saddle you plan to purchase elsewhere, or you would like to be assessed for a different brand of saddle, the cost of the Evaluation is $300.

How much does a Saddle Fitting Evaluation cost for a WOW Saddle I currently own?

The cost of a Fit Evaluation for an existing saddle depends on several factors.

If you currently own a WOW Saddle that you purchased through Delfina Saddlery, Evaluations and/or Adjustment appointments are free for the first year, and $250 thereafter.

If you currently own a WOW Saddle that you purchased secondhand yourself, the cost of Evaluations and/or Adjustments is $300.

How much do your 3D ScanKit Services cost?

Our 3D ScanKit Services are offered at no cost as an add-on service during a standard Saddle Fitting Evaluation.

If you would like to have a FittingSet created from the resultant scan, the cost is $350 + shipping.

How much do your casting services cost?

EQUImeasure Casts: $300

SaddleCasts: $250

I currently own a WOW Saddle I purchased from another WOW rep that I feel does not fit me or my horse correctly. How can Delfina Saddlery help?

As North America's first Certified WOW Saddle Fitters, we feel it is our duty to correct any inadvertent mistakes or mishaps that may have been made by other WOW Reps. If you currently own a WOW Saddle that you purchased from another Rep, and you feel the saddle does not fit you or your horse properly, or never has fit your horse properly, please reach out to us. We frequently offer Evaluations and Adjustments for these saddles at little or no cost, depending on your situation.

I don't live in one of your assigned states (CA, NV, OR, AZ) - can you still help me in the purchase of a WOW or Duskin Saddle?

Absolutely! While the majority of our customers live in CA, NV, AZ, or OR, we frequently help riders across the country. We recommend checking the list of WOW Reps on the WOW Saddles website first, but if your state does not currently have a Rep we'd be happy to help you.

How do I schedule a Cast service?

If you would like to have a mold made of your horse's back during your Saddle Fitting Evaluation, please notify us ahead of time so we can bring the appropriate kit with us to your appointment.
